Lake Mead from Railroad Trail
10/18/2020: The Historic Railroad Trail is an easy, dog-friendly hike along a former railroad grade. It provides panoramic views of Lake Mead, overlooking the Boulder Basin area. We found it rather mundane and very crowded. Good views of Lake Mead and several old railroad tunnels to walk through. Good hike for kids, dogs and family. Not much in terms of “getting away from it all.”
Marg’s Notes: To Lake Mead! Left early again, ~6:30 to try to hike in cooler weather. Went to the Historic Railway Trail, a Rails to Trails path. We walked thru several railroad tunnels. An easy walk, but nice ~5.4 miles out & back. Checked out visitor’s center & got a map & some other trails. Had lunch at the Park at 33 Hole Overlook, then took the Owl Canyon hike. 2.3 miles. Really neat slot canyons & not too hot. Lake level is very low ☹. I think the picnic area was on the water at some point, now it is a cliff! Came back on a google guided drive…out in the boonies again & when we got to the freeway, got gas, then ended up heading the wrong way on I 15 back to Vegas. Only lost ~10 mins tho. Back to the pool & G&Ts (gin and tonics).
Chicken, baked taters, salad.
